Renault coaches

July 23, 2009

After 20 years of faithful service with San Tours, the entire batch of Renault PR14SR coaches were retired as required by law :

San Tours was the largest operator of these coaches. They were all bodied by the now defunct Star Coach Builders in two batches. The first batch comes with two piece folding doors whilst the second batch has one piece doors. These coaches entered into service in 1989. Besides Sans Tours, there are three other such coaches with different operators, all of which ended up with Sungee Travel. PR14SRs coaches are originally built by Berliet of France. Berliet merged with Renault in 1974, Renault continue to built these coaches but batched them as Renaults.

Walkman

July 14, 2009

Thirty years ago on 1 July 1979, the first portable stereo music tape player Sony Walkman was introduced to the world.
The first walkman was bought by my brother. It was a Sanyo, not Sony. It requires 4 AA size batteries to work and it was heavy. The player has only basic functions, forward, rewind, play and stop.
When I started working, I brought my first Toshiba walkman. It is smaller in size, requires 2 AA size batteries to work and it has a radio turner pack that shape like a cassette tape. To use the radio, the cassette tape has to be removed and the turner pack inserted into the player. The turner pack looks exactly and same shape as a cassette tape shown below:

As electronic component becomes smaller, the manufacturers are able to squeeze everything into the player itself without the need of external turner pack.
This is my second walkman, also a Toshiba:

It has included many functions which were not found in the early generation of walkmans such as auto reverse, memory, graphic equalizer, voice recorder and even an alarm clock.

This Isuzu LT134P Yellow School Bus registered on 23 June 2009 carries a new livery. This livery is more interesting compared to the old yellow livery with grey strips.
